fly into the Nanaimo, British Columbia airport (or take a leisurely ferry from Vancouver); once in Nanaimo, go to the Nanaimo harbor, and look for the backpackers, commuters, artists, craftspeople, bicycles, RVs, SUVs and VW microbuses lined-up for the Quinsam (the ferry to Gabriola); relax while you wait for the ferry to arrive; then enjoy the twenty-minute ferry crossing from Nanaimo to Gabriola (keep your eyes open for possible whales, otters and sea lions); once on Gabriola, go up North Road to the post office, and turn left (you'll still be on North Road); go past the pizza place on the left, the gas station, the "Folklife Village", Suzy's Restaurant, and the professional centre; a little while after that, you'll pass the school on your left and the alpaca farm on your right; keep going around the S-curve, and look for the signs pointing to Sandwell Beach; resist the temptation to go to the beach, and instead look for our sign (and us): we're the second building on your right after the turn-off to Sandwell Beach.
