Answers to the questions:
Q: Is the demo a real program, or just a movie or set of samples based on the real program?
A: The demo is definitely a real program. It is much like the real LawStream program we sell, although there are some differences that prevent the demo from being used in a regular office environment. Apart from those exceptions, the files that are contained in the demo package will be the same types of files that are delivered with the real version of LawStream.
Q: Does it cost anything to get the demo?
A: There is no charge for the demo: we don't believe you should pay for giving us the opportunity to let you know about our software. The only investment in getting the demo, is your commitment of time to download, install and explore the demo software.
Q: What is the difference between the demo version and the program that has to be purchased?
A: The demo software is time-limited, so you will only be able to use it for a certain length of time. Your use of the demo is also limited, by not including a way for you to change the name of the firm from the fictional firm/business name associated with the demo data file.
Q: Can I enter data into the LawStream demo, and later use that data in my own office when I buy LawStream?
A: No, you cannot. The inability to use your "demo data" in a "real" copy of LawStream, is due to the fact that you cannot change the firm name, and the fact that you cannot export data from the demo data file to a "real" data file. You can enter the kinds of data you would normally use in your office (including your own clients' names, your own file numbers, and records of time entries, accounting transactions, etc., exactly as if you were entering them in your own office. You cannot, though, transfer that information into your own data file when you get LawStream for your own office. When you purchase LawStream for your own office, you will receive a fresh data file that will contain information specifically entered by PowerSoft Innovations Corporation for your own business. Once you have that start-up data file (and the live/production version of the LawStream software), you will be able to start entering real data in your office.
Q: Will the demo work on Macs and PCs in my office?
A: Demo versions of LawStream are available for Macintosh (OS X) and Windows (XP or newer). Each of those versions differs form the other. If you have Macs and PCs in your office, and you want to try LawStream on both types of computers, you will have to download the Mac demo software and the Windows demo software.
Q: Am I permitted to install the demo on two or more computers?
A: Yes, you certainly can. Be sure you install the entire package onto each computer. You can then use each package independently. If you wish, you could even have one person change data files, and access the data file that has been updated by another person. Note, though, that you are not able to have two people accessing the same data file at the same time (although you can certainly have multiple-user access to the same data file if you get a multi-user version of LawStream.
Q: How long will the demo last?
A: When the demo is first uploaded, it will have an expiry date approximately two months after the date of the upload. If you download it right away after it has been uploaded, you will be able to use it for approximately two months. If not, then your time to explore LawStream will be the remainder of the original evaluation period (somewhere between about a day and about two months)
Q: Does the demo contain all the features that are contained in the program that is available to LawStream users?
A: Because the demo software is updated every couple of months (and because the commercially available software is updated much more often than that), there will often be features in the "real" LawStream that are not available in the demo version. Most of the features will be in the demo version, but you must keep in mind that the demo version can be up to two months older than the real version.
Q: Will you give me training or support on using LawStream, while I am evaluating the demo version?
A: We would like to offer support and training, but we have to allocate our training and support resources to registered ("paid") LawStream users. You will find that the LawStream demo package contains some help features and introductory information that should give you adequate opportunities to explore the program and find out how it works.
