LawStream
Sales Questions and Answers

Your question:

I have a large number of forms I have used with my previous practice management system. Is there anything that can be done to integrate them into LawStream?

Our answer:

The ability to integrate your old forms into LawStream, will depend largely on the type of information in those forms, the way you have used them in your previous practice management application, and the format used for storing those forms.

LawStream has plenty of reports built-in to the application itself. You might find that you are not able to use those old forms at all, in LawStream. It is possible, though, that the forms can be imported into LawStream's word processor, and used as a basis for new forms. LawStream can import rtf ("rich text format") documents, and it retains all or much of the formatting inrtf document when they are imported: that could provide you with the basic text and format of those forms. With a very large number of forms from another application, you will likely want to focus on learning and implementing the basics of LawStream, and only gradually (on an "as needed" basis) start to use LawStream's word processor with your forms. Remember that LawStream is still primarily a data base application, for managing time and money in your office: the word processor is an addition to those primary functions. Note, too, that at the moment, the built-in word processor can pull single records from the data base and use that information in merged word processor documents; we are expecting to be able to offer tables of data later in the summer of 2006, at which time our users will be able to create multi-record reports and forms based on lists of data that can be created from within LawStream (for example, you could get LawStream to build a list of all reminders for a file, and then produce your own formatted report of those reminders, or you could get LawStream to build a list of all unbilled work-in-progress for a file, and then produce your own pre-bill or bill relating to that work.
