LawStream Tips
Enjoy these tips, explore the area of LawStream they cover, and please feel free to request more tips on any topic related to LawStream.
- Interface options: with the advent of LawStream's new toolbar, there are even more ways to perform common functions in LawStream; if you were to use all those options, you could find yourself overwhelmed; on the other hand, you have ways to select only the ones that fit the way you want to work: click here, to learn more about options for getting LawStream to do what you want it to do, the way you want those things done
- Contextual (context-sensitive) menus: many of the lists, display fields and other areas of LawStream windows will respond to a right-click (Windows) or control-click (Macintosh), by displaying a context sensitive (contextual) menu; those contextual menus contain shortcuts, information and other options to make it easier for you to work with the information that is displayed: click here, for details and examples of context-sensitive menus
- Keyboard shortcuts: you can use keyboard shortcuts (command/control keystrokes) to access some of the most common reports and entry windows: click here, for a list of common keyboard shortcuts
- Entering dates: suppose you're entering a reminder for an upcoming trial on 07/08/09; how do you know (and how can LawStream know) whether the date is July 8, 2009, July 9, 2008, August 7, 2009, August 9, 2007, September 8, 2007, or September 7, 2008? Click here, for easy ways to enter dates, and for tips on how to be sure LawStream interprets dates correctly.
- Re-printing bills: if you want to re-print a bill, what do you do? Our first suggestion (quite seriously!), is just to photocopy a file copy of the bill, and use it. If you can't do that, then you should re-print a pdf or "Omnis" copy of the bill that you saved when you printed the original bill (you did save a disk copy of the bill when you printed it, didn't you? (<g>)). There can be reasons, though, why that might not be feasible. Click here, for details about re-printing bills, along with some reminders about the various places where you can find helpful information about LawStream. An extra tip on re-printing bills, especially for firms that rely on bulk billing, has been added as of January 8, 2007.
- Points of entry; points of no return: we're not referring to travel or immigration, but we are referring to ways to make your visits to LawStream entry windows more reliable: click here, for information about expectations for using the Enter and Return keys in LawStream and LawStream Classic windows.
